Commons 2.7.0

I’ve just released version 2.7.0 of the CUNY Academic Commons. Version 2.7.0 is one of our twice-yearly “feature releases”, which include major improvements to the platform. Included in the release:

  • A rewrite of the black toolbar that appears across the network. We’ve given the toolbar a visual refresh, and reorganized the available buttons and submenus for clearer and easier navigation. My Groups and My Sites now get their own top-level dropdowns, and redundant or unneeded nav items have been removed.
  • A refresh of the Group Library interface. Items can now be edited without leaving the main Library view, using an expandable “drawer” interface. The concept of “folders” has been migrated to “tags”, allowing for fine-grained organization.
  • A new privacy setting for groups allows you to make the contents of a Public group visible only to logged-in Commons users. This allows group admins to leverage the anyone-can-join features of Public groups, while hiding group membership and other content from external visitors not logged into the site.
  • We’ve changed the ‘Full Name’ field to ‘Display Name’, to clarify that Commons users have full control over how their name (or pseudonym, if they wish) is shared with the public and with other members of the community.

Commons 1.18.12

I’ve just released version 1.18.12 of the CUNY Academic Commons. This maintenance release includes fixes for the following:

  • Improved compatibility between Elementor tools and the Commons admin bar
  • Improved appearance of form elements during group and site creation
  • Fixed bug that prevented email addresses from being properly validated during registration

Commons 1.16.1

I’ve just released version 1.16.1 of the CUNY Academic Commons. This maintenance release addresses the following issues:

  • Fix formatting of arrow on My Sites toolbar flyout
  • Fix bug in 1.16 release that prevented admins of Teaching-affiliated sites from accessing their Dashboards
  • Fix layout issue in Sites and Groups directory

Commons 1.13.3

I’ve just released version 1.13.3 of the CUNY Academic Commons. This maintenance release fixes a number of issues:

  • Removed duplicate ‘Create a Group’ link from toolbar dropdown
  • Fixed bug introduced in 1.13.0 that prevented status messages from appearing when redirecting to wp-login.php from non-public sites
  • Fixed bug in the display of private message receipients

Commons 1.9.11

I’ve just released version 1.9.11 of the CUNY Academic Commons. This maintenance release features major updates for themes and plugins, as well as a number of miscellaneous fixes:

  • Fixed styling of Request Membership item in group navigation
  • Fixed styling of user toolbar menu at certain window widths
  • Fixed incorrect link for Papers nav item in the Wiki context

Commons 1.3.2

I’ve just released version 1.3.2 of the CUNY Academic Commons. The 1.3.2 release is dedicated to upgrading WordPress from 3.2.1 to the latest, WP 3.3.1. Making this move also required that we migrate from our old, BP-dependent admin bar (what you see across the top of every page of the site) to the new WP toolbar.
